GLBA Yakutat Single Family Housing Unit
Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve, Yakutat, Alaska

Description of Construction Activities
BSI designed and constructed a single family housing unit (SFU) measuring approximately 1,500 square feet (SF) on a concrete foundation suitable for the climate and conditions in Yakutat, Alaska. An attached two-stall garage was also constructed with a finished concrete slab. The work for this project was divided into a Design Phase and a Construction phase. This was an 8(a) Firm Fixed Price (FFP) under contract # C9917040037.

Design Phase
The Design Phase included the presentation of the preliminary floor plans and elevation to the NPS for approval; the development of the comprehensive design incorporating applicable building codes and the NPS provided design criteria from their statement of work, Division 1 specifications and site and utility as-builts. Engineered designs were prepared and submitted to the NPS at the 65% and 95% complete design stages. Comments generated by the NPS from each submittal review were incorporated into the subsequent design concluding with the 100% design documents for a modular housing unit and a concrete foundation. The Construction Phase conformed to this design.

Construction Phase
The Construction Phase of the new housing unit commenced upon approval by the NPS of the 65% design submittal. The scope of construction included: terminating the existing utilities, and removing the existing mobile trailer; construction of the concrete foundation and garage slab for the new housing unit, and extending the water, septic and electrical utilities under the new foundation; off-site construction of a approved housing unit design; installation of the housing unit and garage; applying interior and exterior finishes; and final site cleanup.

This was a Firm Fixed Price (FFP) Contract and was managed by Mr. Kurt Hermes.
